Kraus Farms began business in 1936 as 66 Riding Stables, twenty miles from St. Louis and accessible to city cowboys by the famous Highway 66.

Called the day before, and Billy the owner (who couldn't be nicer) said they'd be open and to just come on in.

Anyway, it was $25 per person for a 45 minute ride (plus a 1% credit card transaction fee - they use the Square reader on their iPhone) so the price and convenience can't be beat. Our guide left a bit to be desired. Lessons Needless to say, pulling up the the stables was a bit of a letdown for me. Very nice staff!



Trail rides are scheduled by appointment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day of the week weather permitting. But my personal preference would be to do a trail ride in a less urban area to really maximize the experience. As a kid, my parents ran several successful businesses training and selling horses.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and the trail ride was fun, but my wife told me she felt it was a little advanced due to the incline and the treacherous conditions of the muddy trail. Had to be 10. We’ve now been in business for four generations! Visually, it’s terrible with power lines right on premises. Horseback Riding, Horse Boarding. It made me feel a bit sorry for the horses that are exposed to that kind of noise pollution constantly.
